About the Program Exercise Physiology, BS
Barry's University Bachelor of Science of Exercise Physiology degree is designed as a preparatory program for graduate or professional school. The degree in Exercise Physiology is a science-based program of study that examines the effects of exercise and physical activity on preventing chronic diseases, improving of physical and mental health & well-being, and optimizing sport performance. A degree in Exercise Physiology can prepare graduates for a broad range of careers in medicine, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, chiropractic, physician assistant, physical therapy, dentistry, pharmacy, occupational therapy, exercise physiology, and strength and conditioning.
The undergraduate program includes courses in science, anatomy, physiology, nutrition, and psychology, with hands-on laboratories in exercise physiology, biomechanics, and sport psychology. Students will also complete up to 480-hours of clinical or research internship with emphasis in health and/or fitness. These activities also provide leadership opportunities.
This degree program will prepare the new era professionals to face the myriad of career opportunities successfully.
Exercise Physiology in one the fastest growing career areas in the country with strong links to health and fitness in both public and private sectors. Related research has shown that more businesses and industries than ever are utilizing exercise as a mean to increase the work efficiency and reduce medical costs and absenteeism. Business and industry, hospitals and rehabilitation centers, fitness assessment clinics, fitness clubs, wellness programs, schools utilize exercise physiology to serve the wellness needs of their constituencies.
