Founders' Week 2021 November 6 - November 14

Founders’ Week honors the spirit of our founders, the Adrian Dominican sisters and celebrates one of Barry’s longest standing traditions. Through service, scholarly, and joyful events, we highlight the University’s faithfulness to our motto – Learn, Reflect, Serve, and build connections that unite students, faculty, staff for generations to come.

Please join us for a weeklong series of remote and in-person events sponsored by various departments across campus!

Founders' Day of Service

8:00 am – 2:00 pm

Registration begins in the Landon Events Room at 7:30 a.m.

Join faculty, staff, alumni, students, and community members to kick off Founders’ Week with a day of service in La Paloma, the neighborhood adjacent to Barry’s Miami Shores campus. Participants will contribute to urban gardening, support school projects, and assist with neighborhood beautification in honor of the university’s collaborative service tradition. The event includes breakfast, snack, and a barbecue on campus from 12:30 to 2:00.

Founders' Week Mass and University Reflection Day

The traditional Founders' Week Mass honors the vision and legacy of our Founders, the Adrian Dominican Sisters, for whom Barry is a sponsored institution.

40,000 Meals in 4 Hours Food Packing Event
1:00-5:00 | Gym

Faculty, staff and students are invited to this on-campus food packing event to prepare 40,000 meals in 4 hours, Meals will be delivered to those in our local and Haitian communities experiencing food insecurity. Drop in for an hour or stay for the entire time. Join Campus Ministry, Intercollegiate Athletics with our community partner, Cross Catholic Outreach to make a difference in someone’s life!

Wall of Honor

Barry University Athletics will induct its ninth class onto the Wall of Honor, one of the Buccaneers' most cherished athletic traditions. Since 1996, there have been 59 inductees, including former Barry University Presidents Sister Jeanne O'Laughlin, PhD, OP and Sister Linda Bevilacqua, PhD, OP. No greater honor can be bestowed upon a former student-athlete or other member of the Barry community.

Core Commitments Luncheon

This year’s luncheon will spotlight faculty and staff’s efforts over the last year to pivot to remote learning in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Professional Learning Communities led by Flexperts (faculty experts) will be highlighted to celebrate professional development efforts that demonstrate our dedication to serving students and how we integrate Barry’s Core Commitments across all academic colleges and schools.

Networking with the Pros: Finding Your Calling

A panel of alumni experts and industry leaders will share secrets and knowledge students need to help find their calling, especially when seeking employment for the first time or moving to a new career. This event allows students to connect, share opportunities and exchange ideas with other alumni and brush up on networking skills.
