Virtual Retreats

The Desert Trek (Lenten Retreat via Zoom) – Saturday February 20 (10:00 AM - 12:00 PM)

During the season of Lent, we take time to reflect as we journey toward Easter. It is a time to let go, to sacrifice whatever weighs us down so we can draw closer to God. Let us journey together into the new life God wants to offer us.

Centering Prayer

Date (Weekly) Saturday Time: 10 am - 12:00 pm
Location: Cor Jesu Chapel (Temporarily suspended due to Covid until further notice)

Centering prayer is a method of Christian prayer that focuses on placing a strong emphasis on interior silence. It is not meant to replace any other forms of prayer but instead to cast a new light and depth of meaning to our prayer. The emphasis of centering prayer is to deepen our relationship with God. All are welcome.

Spiritual Chill Zone

Visit us virtually on Sundays: Facebook Live BUCampusMinistry

The spiritual chill zone is available every Sunday, with a different experience each time. Whether through a group meditation, labyrinth walk, or drum circle, our aim is to provide a space where everyone can come to chill, connect and explore their spirituality.

Interfaith

Barry University is enriched by students, faculty and staff who embrace a variety of religious traditions. Campus Ministry welcomes this diversity and aims to support all who are serious about their journey of faith and seek to deepen their relationship with God. We offer many opportunities to strengthen ecumenical and interfaith relations through dialogue, worship, and community service.

Ecumenical awareness highlights what all Christians hold in common, while respecting the differences that exist between various branches of Christianity’s family tree. As a university in the Roman Catholic tradition we reverence our relationship with our sisters and brothers of other Christian denominations.

Interfaith awareness addresses the broader diversity among world religions. Our interfaith programs provide opportunities for conversation and the promotion of understanding. They can help you develop unique insight into various faith and ethical belief systems, and opportunities to learn more about religious differences and similarities first-hand.

Prayer Space

Monsignor William Barry Memorial Library Room 310 is a prayer space open to all faiths and traditions. If you have any questions, or need assistance in finding the location, please call our office at 305-899-3650

Interfaith Committee

The Interfaith Committee, which includes Barry students, faculty and staff, meets regularly throughout the academic year to organize events and programs which promote dialogue, understanding, and respect among all faith traditions, especially the Abrahamic faiths: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Through presentations on topics of common interest, visits to local houses of worship, shared celebrations such as our Interfaith Passover Seder, and collaboration with campus organizations, schools or divisions, Campus Ministry strives to live out Barry’s commitment to inclusive community.

Interfaith Passover Seder

For many years, Barry University has hosted an annual interfaith Passover Seder on campus. The event is open to all individuals who are interested in celebrating a religious event. Members of the Barry community join together to learn, to eat, to celebrate and recollect God's deliverance of God's people out of bondage.

The Seder is a ritualized meal that recounts the story of how the ancient Hebrews, lead by Moses, escaped from slavery in Egypt. Using a simplified form of the Haggadah, the Seder Prayers, and sharing ritual foods, participants are led through a recitation of the ancient story of Israel's redemption from the bondage of Egypt.
