Podiatry Students

The OAS currently houses 5 computers for student use. Two of those computers have programs designed for people with visual and mobility impairments. The list of assistive computer programs at the OAS are: 

• Dragon Speak Naturally. A speech recognition software used to turn voice to text.
• Jaws14.1. Screen enlargement software for people with low vision.

The OAS has equipment designed to help people with low vision to enlarge and read documents, have documents read aloud, or display sentences line-by-line.

There are also text-to-voice APPs that may be downloaded for free. These programs offer a variety of features. They convert text to alternative formats, highlight, magnify, and provide text-to-speech in a variety of natural voices, languages, and pitches.

The OAS works with IT Services at Barry to provide students with the technology they need on campus. For example, if a student who uses a wheelchair is prevented from attending class because of a problem with an elevator, the OAS can set up distance learning equipment that allows the student to attend class and participate via technology.

The OAS owns two Bobcat x3 scooters for student use when they are on campus (if the student agrees to and signs a Waiver/Release of Responsibility).

CENTER FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS AND ADVISING (CASA)

CASA supports student success by delivering an extensive portfolio of customized services to first-year students, including first-year advising, academic coaching, tutoring, and academic support services.

The CASA is located in the Garner Building

GLENN HUBERT LEARNING CENTER

The CASA houses the Glenn Hubert Learning Center’s Math Lab, Writing Center, and Reading Center. Services provided by the Learning Center include individualized tutoring, tutorials, workshops, seminars, course support, and placement testing.

The Learning Center is located in Garner 113.

CENTER FOR COUNSELING AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES AT BARRY

The Counseling Center provides personal counseling and educational programs. In order to serve all students evening appointments are available by request. Twenty-four-hour emergency personal counseling services are available, for residential students, through their resident coordinators who have counselors’ cell phone numbers.

1. It is your responsibility to let the University know that you have an upcoming assessment. You do this by completing the Testing Reservation Form through the OAS web page. The form must be submitted every Monday.

2. When you arrive to take your assessment you will be asked to leave your items with an administrator. All personal belongings will be returned upon the completion of the assessment.

3. Students who arrive to take an exam/quiz at OAS later than 15 minutes after its scheduled start will not be permitted to take it.

4. Tardy students who arrive sooner than this will be provided a paper copy and only be allowed the balance of the time remaining to complete the exam/quiz. If a tardy student is permitted to take a exam/quiz at the OAS and it is later discovered that another student departed from the regular classroom exam/quiz before the tardy student began their's in OAS, the tardy student's exam/quiz effort will be rendered void and the student will earn a score of zero for it.

5. Deviations from this policy will occur only on a very exceptional circumstance

Please see the steps below on how to download your class notes from DropBox once they have been uploaded.

1. Log in to DropBox using the following information:
   • Website: www.dropbox.com
   • Username and Password will be provided each semester by the Dean of Students’ Office
2. Once logged on, you will be able to see a listing of courses.
3. Click on the link with the name of the course from which you wish to download notes.
4. Click on the link of the notes for the day(s) you are downloading.
5. Click on the blue “Download” button and save the file(s) to your system.

** An important note about the Student Conduct Code: Please note that it is in your honor to download the document(s) for your course only. You do NOT have permission to peruse the other files nor download any other documents. Students who break the rules in this regard are subject to disciplinary action under the Student Conduct Code. **

• Discuss your concern with the Director of the OAS in an effort to resolve the problem.
  
  
• If discussion does not resolve the problem to your satisfaction, inform the Director in writing that you wish to appeal his/her accommodation decision.
  
  
• The Director will present your written request to the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Mission and Student Engagement who oversees the OAS.
  
  
• The AVP of Mission and Student Engagement will render a decision about the accommodation.
  
  
• Any further appeal should be made to the Vice President of Mission and Student Engagement, who will follow procedures set forth by the Barry Executive Committee of the Administration (ECA) and Board of Trustees to address the matter.
