Community Of Healthy, Active, Motivated, Positive Students (C.H.A.M.P.S.)

Barry University’s Youth Development Program C.H.A.M.P.S. (Community of Healthy, Active, Motivated, Positive Students) serves a total of 80 participating students (grades 6-12) at David Lawrence Jr. K-8 Center, Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High, North Miami Senior High School and the North Miami Police Athletic League (PAL). Participants learn new skills and discover new opportunities after the regular school day via structured schedule of activities focused on supporting Academic Success, Social-Emotional Learning, and Skill-Building, focusing on the areas of STEM, Project-Based Learning, Civic Engagement Projects, and Family Engagement Services. In the summer, 50 students who attend any Miami-Dade County Public School have the opportunity to participate in Social-Emotional Learning, Sports Leadership (Soccer), and College and Career Readiness. The overall goal of the program is to equip youth with social, emotional and cognitive skills that promote personal and academic success so that they are can develop into C.H.A.M.P.S.- a Community of Healthy, Active, Motivated, Positive Students.

Barry University’s C.H.A.M.P.S. Program is funded by The Children’s Trust. The Children’s Trust is a dedicated source of revenue established by voter referendum to improve the lives of children and families in Miami-Dade County.
