Biography

Dr. Holloway served as Barry University’s School of Social Work Dean from 1990 to 2005 and as Vice President of Graduate Studies from 1998 until his retirement in 2005. He received a BA degree from San Diego State University, and an MS and Ph.D. from Columbia University. Prior to coming to Barry he served as a social work educator at Columbia University and the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Holloway has earned a national academic and professional reputation for his expertise in the areas of management and administration of not-for-profit organizations, middle-level management and supervision, organizational practice, and homelessness. He is the co-author of the much celebrated texts Changing Human Service Organizations and Supervising in the Human Services and has written numerous journal articles on organizational change, altruism, supervision, and homelessness. In the spring of 2003 Dr. Holloway was appointed, and continues to serve presently, as Chair of the Commission on Accreditation with the Council of Social Work Education. The Commission accredits all national graduate and undergraduate social work programs, more than 650 masters and baccalaureate social work programs throughout the country.
