Biography

Dr. Borgen is an experienced educator with thirty-plus years of experience as classroom teacher, department chairperson, assistant principal and principal at different levels (elementary, high school, adult, career-technical and college/university). Dr. Borgen was the founding Principal of both Miami Beach Senior High Technical Education Center and Miami Lakes Educational Center High School, currently voted the Best Magnet School in the United States. She earned prestigious district and community service awards such as regional Principal of the Year (twice); Woman Worth Knowing Award from the City of Miami Commission on the Status of Women, 2007; City of Miami Beach Proclamation - Rosa D. Borgen Day, 2001; Distinguished Citizen Award, City of Miami Beach, 2000; Woman Worth Knowing Award from the City of Miami Beach Commission on the Status of Women, 1999. One of her prominent accomplishments is to have co-authored the first federal Twenty-First Century Community Learning Center grant for Miami-Dade County Public Schools which was funded for three years, one of only 99 awards granted that year in the nation, which helped establish multi-generational learning programs in both elementary and secondary schools in the district.
