Biography

Michael S. Painter, PhD (Virginia Tech), is a behavioral biologist and spatial ecologist investigating the sensory mechanisms mediating animal navigation and orientation. Specifically, Dr. Painter’s research focuses on the role of geomagnetic cues underlying spatial behaviors such as long-distance migration and local-scale navigation. Before arriving at Barry University, Dr. Painter worked as postdoctoral researcher at Czech University of Life Sciences, Prague, Czech Republic, where he developed biologging technology to study spatial ecology in free-roaming wild boar and red deer. He plans to continue to take advantage of biologging techniques to study magnetic sensing in free-roaming animals in his current position at Barry University.
