Mary Colvin, PhD, RN, CNE

Assistant Professor for the PhD in Nursing Program. Dr. Colvin received her BSN (1978) from Georgetown University, MSN (1985) from University of Edinboro at Pennsylvania, and PhD (2009) from Barry University. Dr. Colvin is a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE). She is an assistant professor at Barry and has taught in the accelerated, generic, and RN-to-BSN option programs in the areas of leadership and management, role transition, ethics and professional processes. Additionally, she coordinated the integration of Kaplan Inc. nursing education resources and testing program. Dr. Colvin also served as an adjunct graduate faculty member teaching in the MSN nursing education track. She has over 20 years of experience in academia. In 2011, she completed the CCNE accreditor training program. In 2010, she attended the first training workshop in Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN). In 2009, she received the Judith Balcerski Award for Nursing Research by the Lambda Chi chapter of Sigma Theta Tau of which she served as president from 2003 to 2005. She was also selected as a Rising Star in Scholarship and Research (2009) and presented a poster at the Sigma Theta Tau Biennium of her dissertation findings titled, “The Meaning of Professionalism of Undergraduate Nursing Students: A Phenomenological Inquiry.” Dr. Colvin was honored as one of the Great 100 Nurses at Centennial Celebration of the Florida Nurses Association. Her most recent presentations focus on issues surrounding professionalism, ethics, and moral distress, which are her research interests.
