Biography

Dr. Maria Teahan joined Barry University School of Social Work as an adjunct professor in 2006. She became the MSW Program Director in 2008, and Associate Dean in 2017. Dr. Teahan presently serves as Interim Dean of the School of Social Work She has over 40 years of extensive practice experience in child and family, hospice care, grief and traumatic loss and critical incident response. Dr. Teahan has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Florida since 1982. She has presented or co-authored seminars, training materials and workshops in the areas of grief and traumatic loss and critical incident stress management locally, nationally and internationally. She has been honored with multiple awards from Barry University, NASW, Palm Beach Fire Rescue, Boca Raton Police Department and others for her service and expertise. Dr. Teahan is also the Clinical Director of the Broward and Palm Beach County Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) team, Boca Raton Police Department and Palm Beach Gardens Police Department CISM teams. Her teaching philosophy is based on fostering an environment where creativity, passion for social work and a mutual dialogue between students and professor exists
