Biography

Dr. McFadden is a Professor of Anesthesiology and serves as the Dean and Chief Nurse Administrator of Barry University's College of Nursing and Health Sciences. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Gwynedd-Mercy University, Gwynedd Valley, PA. He earned an MS in Health Care Administration and MS in Nurse Anesthesia from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, PA, completing his anesthesia residency at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He also has an MSN from the University of Tennessee in Memphis, TN and completed a PhD in Nursing at Barry University. Dr. McFadden is licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Florida and holds Board-Recertification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. Dr. McFadden has more than 35 years of health care experience. He has held positions as a nurse executive, hospital and university program accreditation surveyor, faculty member, and consultant. He established the Florida Association of Student Nurse Anesthetists, now in its 15th year, as a forum for the Florida Association of Nurse Anesthetists (FANA) to provide students with opportunities to learn professional service roles. He served on the Board and as President of FANA, establishing relationships with other advanced practice nursing groups and influencing the development of state policies that affect nursing practice. At a national level, Dr. McFadden served on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) and as the Association's Chair of the Finance Committee, and Chair of the Practice Committee. He is also a Chair Reviewer for the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs. Dr. McFadden is an active member of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), having served as an elected member of the Nominating Committee, a member of the Membership Committee, a mentor to new deans, and appointed Chair of the AACN DNP Essentials Work Group and member of the AACN Task Force for the Revision of the AACN Essentials Document. He is currently the Treasurer of the Florida Association of Colleges of Nursing, a Mentor for Sigma Theta Tau's Emerging Educational Administrator Institute, and on the editorial board of the BHSF Nursing & Health Sciences Research Journal. He has delivered more than 60 professional national and international presentations, workshops, journal articles and textbook chapters. He is passionate about interprofessional collaboration and patient-focused health care.
