Biography

Dr. Jennie Ricketts-Duncan joined the Adrian Dominican School of Education in 2011. She earned her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from Barry University, an Education Specialist degree in Reading from Barry University, a Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership from Central Connecticut State University, and a Bachelor in Education from the University of the West Indies, Jamaica. Before migrating to Miami, Florida, she taught at the elementary to tertiary levels in Jamaica. She was instrumental in coordinating the Western Regional Caribbean Center of Excellence (CCETT) in Literacy Education for Sam Sharpe Teachers' College, in Montego Bay, Jamaica. CCETT provides reading assessment and intervention to increase the literacy performance of first through third grade struggling readers across the island. She is currently teaching undergraduate and graduate level reading courses within the Curriculum, Pedagogy and Research Interdisciplinary Unit at Barry University. She has also taught reading courses in Nassau and Freeport, Bahamas as part of Barry University’s distance learning programs. Dr. Ricketts-Duncan's research interest includes: Teacher leadership and practice in reading, literacy coaching practice, and integrating literature across the curriculum. She has presented at several local, national, and international conferences and have published several peer-reviewed literacy literature. She also provided professional consultation as a grant reviewer for the Louisiana's Department of Education, Striving Readers Comprehensive Literacy (SRCL) Grants, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and served as a subject matter expert for the Florida Department of Education. Dr. Ricketts-Duncan volunteers her service on university committees and other community partnerships. She serves as a Senator on the Florida Literacy Association Board and is currently the Editor for Teachers on the Cutting Edge, which is annual themed monologue published by the Florida Literacy Association. She also serves as manuscript reviewer for the International Literacy Association, the Reading Horizon Journal, Literacy Research Association, Journal of Research in Education, and Current Issues in Education Journal.
