Biography

Colleen R. Logan joined Barry University as Professor and Chair of the MS Counseling program in 2021. Dr. Logan holds a BS in Behavioral Sciences/Psychology from Warren Wilson College. Dr. Logan also holds a M.S. in Counselor Education from Duquesne University and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the University of Virginia. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Professional Counselor state of Texas. Dr. Logan has dedicated her career to advancing affirmative therapy for LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and families; social justice; and advocacy for marginalized populations. Her career spans decades of activism, advocacy, and diversity training. Dr. Logan has a national and international reputation as a trainer and speaker in issues related to LGBTQ+ issues; multicultural/diversity issues; advocacy, and social justice. For example, she was an invited speaker at the Asian Pacific Counseling conference in Singapore, the Philippines Counseling Convention in Manila and the X. Turkish Psychological and Guidance Congress in Adana, Turkey. She is a Fellow and Past President of the American Counseling Association (ACA). In addition, the ACA has commended her for her contributions to the field of counseling as well as her unwavering commitment to affirmative therapy for LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and families. She has authored or co-authored numerous articles and chapters. In 2016, Dr. Logan authored a document entitled Inclusion and Wellbeing of LGBTQ+ Youth, an award-winning document created for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America staff and volunteers. She has also received numerous awards for her teaching and service including her most recent recognition as recipient of the prestigious Rotunda Outstanding Professor Award at Southern Methodist University.
