Biography

Dr. Heather Johnson Desiral earned a doctorate in Reading Education and a master’s degree in teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) at Nova Southeastern University. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of the West Indies. Currently, she is pursuing a second doctorate, a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Special Education at Barry University. Dr. Johnson Desiral is also a professional educator and has taught students from kindergarten to the college level in the Caribbean and in Miami-Dade County.

She is multilingual, and her current interests involve research in special education and language-minority families, particularly parents of special-needs children. She is also interested in promoting experiential learning for college-level students.
