  • 10:00-10:05 am: Introduction – Bryan Caldwell, DPM, MD, Dean, Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine
  • 10:05-11:05 am: Luis Rodriguez, DPM – Surgical Complications in Foot and Ankle Surgery
  • 11:10-12:10 pm: Louis J. DeCaro, DPM – Biomechanical Essentials of the Pediatric patient BOTH before and after 9 years of age

At the conclusion of the seminar, Physicians will be able to:

  • Understand how to identify the basic biomechanical principles of the foot and lower extremity as a function of gait and recognize the affect pathological foot conditions have upon normal gait.
  • Understand the most common foot and ankle pathologies associated with Podopediatrics involving orthotic treatments.
  • Understand the long-term implications of foot types in starting with children and their correlation and prevention of many common adult kinetic chain pathologies including but not limited to bunions, hammertoes, neuromas, plantar fasciitis, and other common podiatric adult complaints.
  • Understand how to select the appropriate orthotic design and selection based on pathological foot-type prior to and after forefoot varus/valgus starts to play a role.
  • Understand and identify the risk factors that enable complications in foot and ankle surgery during the pre-operative, operative, and post-operative period.
