Doctor of Podiatric Medicine

With the aging population and the global diabetes epidemic sweeping through the United States there will be an increased demand for high quality podiatric physicians in the future. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 23% increase in positions for podiatric physicians by 2022.

Our students are taught in small groups and have the opportunity to pursue dual degree options. In fact, several have graduated with MBAs through our Andreas School of Business. At Barry University’s School of Podiatric Medicine, our clinical education experience is second to none. Students rotate through eight different hospitals and clinics throughout the Miami area. The latest technological innovations permeate the curriculum from the use of lecture capture technology and e-learning experiences in the first year to tracking student-patient interactions with "state of the art" technology in the clinics.

As an academically qualified student enrolled in the School of Podiatric Medicine you have the option of obtaining the dual degree Doctor of Podiatric Medicine/Master of Business Administration (DPM/MBA) in four years of study. If accepted into the dual degree program, in addition to the podiatric medical curriculum, eligible students must complete 27 semester hours of required graduate business core courses.

This dual degree option gives you an understanding of the economics involved in managing a business and helps advance awareness about public health. You will learn to use financial tools and gain skills necessary to effectively manage the day-to-day operations of a medical office. Or you will work with community groups to assess the health status of communities, and identify and solve public health problems.

During the first year of enrollment in the School of Podiatric Medicine, students must indicate their interest in obtaining the dual degree.

MBA candidates may have to take up to eight business workshops, depending on previous academic preparation. The workshops are offered periodically throughout the year.

You need a minimum of 90 semester hours of undergraduate study at an accredited institution in order to be considered for Barry University's School of Podiatric Medicine. The university prefers the completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college of arts and sciences in the United States.

The School of Podiatric Medicine seeks to identify and recruit those students most likely to succeed in podiatric medical education regardless of age, race and ethnicity, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. Though an official MCAT score is required for admission it is not needed to be granted an interview. BUSPM also welcomes applications from veterans of military service.
