About the Program

What you can do with an MS in Human Performance and Wellness

The Master of Science in Human Performance and Wellness program can be personalized to meet your professional goals in your specific areas of interest, including courses in biomechanics, athletic training, exercise physiology and sport, exercise, and performance psychology.

The program is designed to:

  • Enhance your standing in your current occupation by increasing your knowledge and salary potential
  • Expand your career options in coaching, teaching, or other sport and exercise-related field.
  • Prepare you for doctoral studies by developing an interdisciplinary foundation

Some students enter the program immediately following their undergraduate studies, while others return as students after working in the field as coaches, teachers, and fitness professionals for a few years.

FLEXIBILITY

This unique program is designed to provide you with a flexible learning environment. While all students will gain the core knowledge of the field, the curriculum's electives, hands-on internships, and research thesis opportunities will enable you to focus on the specific areas that appeal to you. Your graduate committee will work with you to map out your course schedule, based on your professional goals and your academic interests.

The program is designed with working professionals in mind. It can be completed in as little as two years, or extended to a maximum of seven years. Your personal academic advisor will help you balance the number of classes you are taking each semester with the amount of free time that you have available in your already busy life.

You can choose an area for your internship or thesis study that will focus on the topics that most interest you. We will help you find the resources and opportunities that will best prepare you for success. (You will also have access to our broad alumni network in the South Florida area, as well as around the world.

SOUTH FLORIDA LOCATION

The South Florida environment will provide you with a broad range of internship and practicum opportunities, allowing you to gain hands-on experience in different areas of movement science in order to choose a focus that interests you.

Our students have worked with diverse populations, including professional athletes, clients with disabilities, and the elderly.

FACILITIES

Our state-of-the-art facilities, including an Athletic Training room, Human Performance Lab, Performance Behavior Lab, and Biomechanics Lab, are designed to provide you with hands-on and research experience.

EXPERT FACULTY

Since you will have the ability to take classes in all four areas of specialization, you will have access to all of the internationally-recognized faculty in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
