Reading, EdS Program Overview
The Specialist in Education degree program in reading is a 30-semester-hour program beyond the master's degree. This program is perfect for you if you already hold a master's degree in any area and want to earn a reading degree and certification.
This degree provides you with the knowledge and practice to become an exemplary reading professional who makes a difference for your students cognitively, affectively, and academically in literacy through holistic and traditional theoretical views of language and literacy development while embracing an ethic of care.

For Working Professionals
Courses are offered on the main campus or fully online in 7- and 16-week terms. Most students complete the program in less than two years while continuing to work full time. -
Leadership Training
You will learn how to integrate best practices into the entire reading curriculum, allowing you to provide literacy leadership at the school, community, and district levels. -
Improve Instruction
You will learn how to apply knowledge of reading research to improve literacy instruction. You also will demonstrate refined research-based teaching strategies and skills for improved reading and learning. -
Certification
You can apply for a certification once you have achieved certain benchmarks, including successful completion of the 30 semester hours of the program, including all required courses plus a children/adolescent literature course.
