Montessori Teacher Education Programs

The Adrian Dominican School of Education offers you unique opportunities to learn the philosophy underlying the Montessori Method, acquire a repertoire of teaching strategies which have been found to be successful with children all throughout the world, and develop skills in addressing the challenges of the educational setting.

Barry University Teacher Education Programs (TEP) offers three levels of Montessori Education:

1. Early Childhood (Certificate Program with MS in Curriculum and Instruction option)
2. Elementary I-II (MS, EdS)
3. Secondary I-II (Certificate Program with MS in Curriculum and Instruction option)

The two-semester practicum gives you an opportunity to implement theory into practice with support from the University and the cooperating practicum site. During this period of implementation, standards set by the American Montessori Society and the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education are used as guidelines in designing a structure to assist the student teacher in acquiring the competencies required of an elementary program or early childhood specialist.

It is the program's hope that you experience growth in the personal, professional, and leadership dimensions during this period.

Upon completion of all course and practicum requirements, you will be recommended to receive a teaching certificate for the early childhood level, ages two and a half through six years or elementary level, ages 6-12 years, from the American Montessori Society.
