Receiving Certification Outside of Florida

The State of Florida has reciprocity agreements with other states, thus making it easier for Barry University students to become a certified teacher in another state.

To increase the chances of earning certification outside of Florida, students should obtain a Master of Science in Education. Although Florida does not currently require a master's degree for permanent certification, many of the other states do. Receiving the master's degree broadens the student's career options, allowing him/her to pursue teaching elsewhere. Students are strongly encouraged to receive Florida Teacher Certification prior to transitioning into other state(s) education system.

Barry University's School of Education is here to help students understand the requirements necessary for out-of-state certification. For more information about reciprocity, please contact the Department of Education in the state you wish to receive a certification from.

Teach in Florida, or Anywhere in the World.

The great news is that you are not limited to teach only in Florida, or even the United States, after you graduate. In fact, we encourage our students to pursue teaching wherever they desire. When you graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Education from Barry University, you will receive Reading and ESOL Endorsements. These endorsements help students pursue teaching in other states and overseas.
