The Chem Club provides opportunities to learn how chemistry affects our lives. From time to time we will have guest speakers, career workshops, and our own faculty members talking about their research. The Chem Club also provides social activities such as pizza parties and beginning and end of semester lunches. We sponsor fund-raising activities and host the initiation ceremony for Gamma Sigma Epsilon Chemistry Honor Society. In the spring many of us will attend the ACS National meeting.
The Chem Club is also a service-oriented organization. We provide peer tutoring for Barry chemistry students, assist in the supplemental instruction-recitation sections, and prep and TA the chemistry labs. We present chemistry magic shows and hands-on-chemistry experiments with students at local elementary schools. We also participate in the American Chemical Society's National Chemistry Week in October with an information table in the Wiegand Science building lobby. We also celebrate National Mole Day, October 23, and Earth Day, April 22. We assist in the annual High School Science Olympiad held at Barry in the spring.
As a community service organization, we also perform service activities such as Habitat for Humanity, American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, hurricane relief and collecting Christmas gifts for kids.
