We are an NCAA Division II school and a member of the Sunshine State Conference with 12 varsity teams, including men's baseball, basketball, golf, soccer and tennis; and women's basketball, golf, rowing, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. So far, we've won 24 NCAA championships, had 338 All-Americans, 413 Scholar All-Americans, and nine NCAA "Women of the Year" finalists, the most of any Division II school. Not bad at all, but we're going for more.

About the Grant Engaged STEM Scholars Grant

An “engaged” student is one who is curious, interested, and motivated to learn. If this sounds like you, we hope you will consider applying to be part of our program. Applications open in October 2020, and the deadline to apply is March 19, 2021 11:59 PM. Have a look at our Application Criteria for more details.

Based on SAT or ACT scores, applicants may be asked to complete our Summer Scholars Program in June-July 2021 before becoming an Engaged STEM Scholar.

Engaged STEM Scholars will begin as STEM majors at Barry in the Fall semester of 2021 and will get to take advantage of extra financial support (based on financial need), peer and faculty mentoring and building connections with other Scholars by taking classes together and participating in planned activities outside of class. This is in addition to the opportunities available to all Barry STEM majors, like: faculty-mentored undergraduate research, hands-on experiential learning, community-oriented learning, science-related clubs and societies, connections to industry ad job pathways, internship opportunities and more!

Open to students graduating high school in 2021, Barry University’s Engaged STEM Scholars program provides a four-year grant to a select group of academically motivated students who intend to pursue STEM majors at Barry and who demonstrate financial need. The initiative also includes a dynamic Summer Scholars Program on Barry’s main campus in June-July 2021, allowing participants a head start to their first year of college.

This new program, funded by the National Science Foundation, aims to prepare the next generation of STEM professionals through need-based scholarship opportunities. Many of Barry University’s most successful STEM-program graduates were the first in their families to attend a four-year university. Now, high school students graduating in May 2021 have even more support to pursue their STEM dreams through the Engaged STEM Scholars grant program, which offers:

  • Scholarship grants for STEM majors (supplemental to FAFSA)
  • One-on-one faculty advising and mentoring
  • Department-specific academic advising
  • Research opportunities
  • Engagement with local government and industry through internships and service projects
  • Participation in an exclusive Summer Scholars Program in June-July 2021
